STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD FOR A GODLY MARRIAGE
Marriage is God’s business. The Bible is replete with several promises for the couples which we can stand upon even at the times when problems look insurmountable, when the ocean of life seems uncrossable. When every other thing fails, the promises of God cannot fail. A song-writer puts it this way:
Standing on the promises that cannot fail;
While the howling storms of doubt and fear assail;
By the living Word of God, I shall prevail;
Standing on the promises of God.
Chorus: Standing, Standing;
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
I’m standing on the promises of God.
Whenever a problem shows up in your marriage and you’ve tried everything possible to solve it without respite, remember God’s promises and stand without wavering upon the promises. God has given us great and precious promises to help us from earth to heaven. His promises are sufficient for life and eternity.
“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” 2Peter 1:3-4
Leave the premises of your problems and stand on the promises of God. World predictions aren’t God’s prophecy. The world may predict divorce due to your peculiar situation or that of your parents. The word of God doesn’t attach a predicament or past failures or present challenge to the failure of your marriage. The bible in Isaiah 3:10 says; “Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.”
Dear reader, can I once again assure you that all that we need to make it from earth to eternity in glory has been graciously supplied by the Lord? Your marriage will survive no matter the storms that come your way. With Jesus in your marital boat, be sure you’re not going to sink.
When Jesus was physically here in the world, He was to cross to the other side of a particular sea with His disciples to a country where He was to perform a notable miracle; but right there in the middle of the journey on the high sea, there was a terrible storm of wind that rose up against them. The disciples did all they could to help the boat from sinking; their lives were already at stake. The situation was a life and destiny threatening one. But see what happened thereafter when Jesus, the Son of God intervened. “And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: And they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” Mark 4:37-39. This is what I call “Divine Intervention” It is very obvious that every other thing may sink, but the Son of God can never sink. By Him were all things created, visible or invisible. He created man, He created angels, He created principalities and powers, He created the world and its entire solar system. Jesus, the Son of God, though misunderstood, misrepresented and misconstrued by men has the world in the palm of His hands, nothing escapes His knowledge. Jesus knows how to fix any marriage problems. He can fix yours and He will.
WHEN JESUS IS INVITED
Jesus never forces Himself on anyone; He wants to be invited to take charge of a situation that is out of our human control. There was a marriage in a place called Cana of Galilee and Jesus with His disciples was invited. Mary, the mother of Jesus was also at the marriage. As the ceremony went on, something shameful was to happen to the couple. The wine finished! This wine, signifying what makes a marriage to be called marriage indeed got exhausted. Mary had confidence in the Presence of Jesus at that ceremony and she knew that there was no other solution to the problem than the One who commands the riches heaven upon earth. The One who upholds all things by the Word of His power. The One whom God the Father had declared to the world as “… my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased” Matthew 3:17. The One whose name is Jesus. Jesus never turns one suffering child away; even if it looks like He wasn’t going to answer, His Nature makes it impossible for Him not to intervene in a matter that requires an urgent remedy. He is full of compassion. When He forgives and cleanses from sin, He does it without a trace of the old sin remaining. When He heals, it is perfect. He is THE ANSWER FOR THE WORLD TODAY.
See how He intervened in that marriage. “Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants who drew the water knew) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him” John 2:7-11.
I think your life is the next in line for a miracle of this nature. The wine of love and affection that is dying in your marriage will be restored and renewed today in Jesus name.There’s something to take note of in that scripture. The servants obeyed the Lord without any argument. They forsook logical reasoning when Christ was telling them to fill the water pots with water and bare the same water to the governor of the feast. They took Jesus as the One with the overruling authority on earth. They magnified Him above the governor of that feast. The
mother of Jesus had told them in a previous verse saying; “…Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it” (verse 5). If you really want to make your marriage sweet, do whatsoever He commands you without struggle. Just obey.
CHRIST’S IMMUTABLE PROMISE
When Jesus gives a promise, please realize that He will surely bring it to pass. When He told His disciples that He was going to suffer and die on the cross, and would rise on the third day, He fulfilled it without fail. He is God and it is impossible for Him to lie. Let all men be liars, Jesus is Truth Personified. “For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee…W herein God, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope that is set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest forever after the order of Melchisedek.” Hebrews 6:13,14, 18-20.
Can you see that nothing will be difficult for you as you have the Lord on your side? See what Jesus promised to do for you and your spouse: “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever ye shall lose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 18:18,19.
With these promises of Christ, no power coming from anywhere will be able to penetrate into your home. YOU ARE MORE THAN A CONQUEROR IN JESUS NAME!Share This Article
